Enlarged pores are a condition in which the channels through which sweat and sebum are secreted appear noticeably larger. Causes include increased sebum production, hair follicle size, age-related loss of skin elasticity, photoaging caused by UV rays, genetics, and weakening of the hair follicle structure due to acne. Treatment options include topical agents such as retinoids and niacinamide, chemical peels, laser treatments, radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, and, depending on acne severity, oral medications. However, since pores are a natural part of the skin’s structure, they cannot be completely eliminated or permanently closed; it is important to understand that the goal of these treatments and care routines is to make pores less noticeable. Lifestyle management—such as avoiding comedogenic products that clog pores and maintaining a routine of regular cleansing and sun protection—is also helpful. Since the appropriate method varies depending on the cause and skin condition, a consultation is necessary to determine the best course of action.
