Although both Botox and fillers are injection treatments, they differ in how they work and their intended purposes. Botox (botulinum toxin) temporarily blocks nerve signals to the muscles, thereby weakening muscle movement; as a result, it is primarily used to reduce dynamic wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes that form when making facial expressions. On the other hand, fillers are used to restore lost volume by injecting substances such as hyaluronic acid beneath the skin, and to improve the contours of established static wrinkles, nasolabial folds, cheeks, and lips. In other words, Botox, which reduces movement, and fillers, which add volume, address different concerns and may be considered together depending on the situation. Their duration of effect also varies: Botox lasts approximately 3–4 months, while HA fillers last anywhere from several months to about a year, depending on the type and treatment area, with individual results varying. Which treatment is appropriate depends on the nature of the wrinkles you wish to reduce (dynamic/static), your desired results, and your individual condition, so a consultation is necessary to determine this.
