Facelifts are divided into non-surgical and surgical procedures, each with its own characteristics. According to the Cleveland Clinic, non-surgical methods (such as fillers, fat grafting, lasers, microneedling, etc.) avoid incisions and general anesthesia, resulting in a faster recovery and relatively less pain and cost. However, the results are temporary, requiring repeat treatments every few months to several years, and their effectiveness is limited for deep wrinkles or severely sagging skin. In contrast, surgical facelifts involve making incisions to lift and secure the skin and muscles, resulting in more pronounced effects; however, they require general anesthesia and carry risks such as swelling and bruising for about 2–3 weeks, as well as a recovery period of several months, scarring, and changes in sensation. The appropriate choice depends on the degree of sagging, skin elasticity, available recovery time, and expectations, and varies significantly from person to person. During a consultation, it is helpful to determine which category your sagging falls into and to compare the duration of results, plans for repeat procedures and recovery, and the limitations of each method.
