Ultrasound lifting is a non-surgical procedure that focuses ultrasound waves at a specific depth within the skin to create microscopic thermal coagulation points (TCPs), which stimulate collagen contraction and reorganization. A prime example is the micro-focused ultrasound (MFU-V) device known as Ulthera. According to the reviewed literature, the energy is delivered at depths of approximately 1.5 mm (superficial dermis), 3.0 mm (mid-dermis), 4.5 mm (deep dermis and SMAS layer), with temperatures reaching approximately 60–70 degrees. The procedure is performed using real-time ultrasound imaging to visualize the layers, helping to avoid structures such as bones and blood vessels. This device is approved in the United States for eyebrow lifts, neck and under-chin lifts, and décolletage wrinkle reduction. Since it targets deep layers beyond the epidermis, it has been reported to be safe for a wide range of skin tones, and side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as redness and tenderness.
